Garfield School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month! In the mornings, the students danced to famous Spanish songs as they entered the building and our ESL students taught us a Spanish Word of the Day during morning announcements. It was a great way to celebrate the rich tapestry of the Hispanic and Latino cultures!

✨Garfield School Library classes were held outside today. Students visited the outdoor tables and participated in a book tasting, sampling new books in the Garfield School Library Collection, all while enjoying the fresh air!🌞📚

Garfield School 5th grade science students in Ms. Harris's class are having so much fun participating in science experiments. This experiment introduced acids, a group of substances with a reputation for being reactive. In the activity, Acid Test, students discover two ways to detect acids: they use baking soda, which fizzes when mixed with acids, or a special liquid that changes color when mixed with acids. Then, students use those methods to identify common foods that are acidic.

Fourth graders in Mrs. Kenig's Science Class at Garfield School engaged in a Mystery Science Lesson. In this lesson, students explored how heat is another form of energy that can make things go. Students made a paper Heat Spinner and observed how air created movement. Then, students used their Heat Spinners to experiment with a heat source (an incandescent bulb) and discover how heat energy can make the spinner move in different ways.
