Ms. Abrams and Ms. Kleinās class at Franklin had a great time exploring science with our Glitter Germs experiment! Students followed directions, used their AAC devices to read and identify important vocabulary, and had so much fun learning how germs spread. A fantastic hands-on learning day!
Garfield School: Mrs. Mancusoās 2nd graders tackled a complete literacy workout! They used their hands to clap out syllables and build words with Play-Doh, sharpened their minds with iReady, and practiced their reading skills. They are mastering all the skills that make up a great reader!
Our 4th graders at Garfield School just completed the coolest assignment: the T-Shirt Book Report! Instead of a traditional paper report, students designed amazing shirts to visually present key elements of a fiction book. Talk about showing off creativity AND comprehension! The Kearny School District would like to congratulate KHS English teacher Samantha Sansone for being honored as an NSHSS Educator of Distinction. Junior Sumaiya Ouali nominated Mrs. Sansone, describing her as āso caring and always there for you every day, even after youāre done with her class.ā As an Educator of Distinction, Sansone was recognized as an outstanding role model and exemplary practitioner who has made a lasting difference in studentsā lives by encouraging them to strive for excellence, not only in academics but in all their pursuits.
News 12 New Jersey reporter and Kearny High School alum Amanda Eustice visited Mr. Millerās Broadcasting classes for a hands-on look at life as a multimedia journalist. Eustice demonstrated some of the equipment she uses in the field and walked students through her typical day: from morning meetings to pitching stories and posting updates on social media.
With true enthusiasm and authenticity, she highlighted the dedication and adaptability required in local news reporting. Millerās students listened intently, reflecting on what makes a story newsworthy, how to capture a viewerās attention, and how they envision their own futures in broadcasting.

Yesterday at Franklin School, Ms. Kleinās class honored our heroes! We listened to songs, watched videos, made a special craft, and practiced saying āHappy Veteranās Dayā using our communication devices. Thank you to all who have served!
Garfield School: Mrs. Bifulco's 2nd grade authors started their writing lesson with the funny animal story, "Click, Clack, Moo," to inspire their own silly tales. The students worked individually and used peer conferencing to add to and refine their creative stories. We can't wait to read these funny and creative masterpieces!
Garfield School: Ms. Seeley and Mrs. Gallagher-Figueroaās 2nd graders are building strong math foundations! They engaged in a strategic lesson focused on adding and subtracting within 100. Using a combination of music, technology, and partner work, students strategically applied key concepts like place value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction throughout group activities and individualized iReady time.

The Kearny High School 2025 senior play is āPuffsā by Matt Cox, a parody of the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling, but from the perspective of the "Puffs": that is, members of the Hogwarts house, Hufflepuff.
The play will be performed on December 5 & 6 at 7:00pm in the Kearnyās High School auditorium under the direction of Milagros Gonzalez. The cost of the ticket is $6 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults. All proceeds go to the class of 2026.

Over the course of October, Mrs. Pabst, Mrs. Nolan, and Roosevelt School students have been actively learning about the environment and the importance of protecting our planet. Our 6th graders culminated their lessons on water systems and pollution by partnering with the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) to collect trash along the Passaic River bankāgathering an impressive 12 bags of garbage!
The 6th-grade students also had the opportunity to observe microorganisms in partially treated wastewater from a wastewater treatment plant under a microscope to understand better how water is cleaned and returned safely to the environment. In addition, students in grades 4ā6 attended an assembly led by Mr. Brooks from PVSC on the Passaic River Restoration Program.
To further our environmental efforts, members of the KHS S.A.V.E. Club visited students in grades 4ā6 to launch a plastic wrapper recycling initiative. The goal is to collect enough wrappers to earn a bench for our school made entirely from recycled plasticāan exciting step forward in our journey toward EcoSchools certification!
