🚨Reminder: Wednesday, November 26th will be a single session day for all Kearny School District schools. All students in grades PreK-12 will be dismissed at 12:54pm. Schools will be closed on Thursday, November 27th and Friday, November 28th in observance of Thanksgiving Day 🦃

The Kearny School District Central Office staff supported families in need by making donations for a Thanksgiving food drive. Thank you for spreading kindness as we begin the holiday season!

As part of our Gratitude Week celebration, today we are celebrating the district bus drivers who start and end each school day with a smile. No matter the weather or the route, they greet our students with patience, kindness, and steady care.

The Class of 2025 is proud to present Puffs by Matt Cox — a fun, clever parody of the Harry Potter series told from the perspective of the loyal and often overlooked “Puffs” of Hufflepuff House.

Roosevelt School and Principal Moyano would like to thank Maribel’s Café and owners Maribel and Frank Gonzalez for their generous donation of jackets, hats, and socks. Maribel nominated the school through Amazon’s "Together We Give" program, and we are grateful her business was selected to give back. Thanks to their kindness, our students will stay a little warmer this winter.

In every corner of our district, there are people who show up with heart, dedication, and quiet strength — often without the spotlight they deserve. This week, we are taking a moment to celebrate them.

We are starting with our incredible security team. They greet the earliest arrivals, watch over our buildings long after the last dismissal, and bring comfort simply by being there. Their steady presence keeps our schools safe and allows our community to thrive.

Ms. Abrams and Ms. Klein’s class at Franklin had a great time exploring science with our Glitter Germs experiment! Students followed directions, used their AAC devices to read and identify important vocabulary, and had so much fun learning how germs spread. A fantastic hands-on learning day!

Our 4th graders at Garfield School just completed the coolest assignment: the T-Shirt Book Report! Instead of a traditional paper report, students designed amazing shirts to visually present key elements of a fiction book. Talk about showing off creativity AND comprehension! Check out these wearable works of literary art!

The Kearny School District would like to congratulate KHS English teacher Samantha Sansone for being honored as an NSHSS Educator of Distinction. Junior Sumaiya Ouali nominated Mrs. Sansone, describing her as “so caring and always there for you every day, even after you’re done with her class.” As an Educator of Distinction, Sansone was recognized as an outstanding role model and exemplary practitioner who has made a lasting difference in students’ lives by encouraging them to strive for excellence, not only in academics but in all their pursuits.

News 12 New Jersey reporter and Kearny High School alum Amanda Eustice visited Mr. Miller’s Broadcasting classes for a hands-on look at life as a multimedia journalist. Eustice demonstrated some of the equipment she uses in the field and walked students through her typical day: from morning meetings to pitching stories and posting updates on social media.
With true enthusiasm and authenticity, she highlighted the dedication and adaptability required in local news reporting. Miller’s students listened intently, reflecting on what makes a story newsworthy, how to capture a viewer’s attention, and how they envision their own futures in broadcasting.
Thank you, Amanda, for inspiring the next generation of storytellers and giving back to your hometown community.

Garfield School: Mrs. Alfaro's 1st graders are literacy stars! The students are busy reinforcing reading and writing skills through engaging center activities, small group lessons, and personalized iReady work. Every student is on the path to becoming a successful reader and writer. Great job!

Garfield School: Congratulations to Mr. Schalago's Homeroom for earning the Best Homeroom Attendance Award for the month of October!

Yesterday at Franklin School, Ms. Klein’s class honored our heroes! We listened to songs, watched videos, made a special craft, and practiced saying “Happy Veteran’s Day” using our communication devices. Thank you to all who have served!

Garfield School: Mrs. Bifulco's 2nd grade authors started their writing lesson with the funny animal story, "Click, Clack, Moo," to inspire their own silly tales. The students worked individually and used peer conferencing to add to and refine their creative stories. We can't wait to read these funny and creative masterpieces!
