The Kearny School District hosted ā€œFun, Frost, and Familyā€ evenings at each elementary school. Students and their families engaged in literacy and social emotional learning, including read alouds, games, snacks, and giveaways. It was wonderful spending these events with many of the families that make up our school community. Fun was had by all! A special thanks to the teachers and staff involved in planning and facilitating these enjoyable events.

The Spanish Language and Cultural Awareness participants have recently been learning about Peru. Ms. Patricia Tellez shared information on the rich Peruvian history of the Incas and modern Peruvian culture. Mr. Juan Pablo Laverde, owner of Julia's Cafe (419 Kearny Ave), shared his story of coming to the US at the age of 20 and earning both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. He worked several jobs to save up the money to follow his dream of becoming a business owner. Participants of the class enjoyed authentic, delicious Peruvian food from Julia's cafe including: Papa Rellena de Pollo (potato filled with chicken), Chaufa Mix (rice with chicken and beef), and Ceviche (fish cured in citrus juices). This continues to be an engaging and insightful weekly activity for our school community!
