Washington School preschoolers in Ms. DaSilva and Mrs. Gawronski-Smyth's classes took a trip to Turtle Back Zoo last week, where they visited attractions like the touch tank, saw the prairie dogs, took a train ride and enjoyed an outdoor lunch. Students were so excited to see all different types of animals from different areas of the world and even got a peek into what the different habitat needs are of each.

šŸ› ļø Kearny High School’s Building and Trades students, led by Mr. Phil Talone, dove into hands-on activities at the Construction Industry Career Day Expo at the NJ Convention Expo Center on May 29th! Sponsored by CCT, DISCA, ELEC and others, the attendees learned about educational opportunities, wage progressions, participated in demonstrations, and inquired about the signup process for the various unions represented at the show. Our kids represented the district well by demonstrating professionalism, courtesy and genuine interest in the field. Thank you to Mr. Talone for organizing the trip, and kudos to our students on a job well done! šŸ› ļø

Kearny High School second year medical students were honored at the annual Clara Maass Volunteer Recognition luncheon held at Nanina's In The Park. The students were in attendance alongside County Tech, Belleville High School, Montclair High School, and North Arlington High School. The guest speaker was Dr. Avril Ano who began as a teen volunteer at Clara and is now one of their emergency room physicians. Dante Correa, a Kearny High School senior, was honored for being an exemplary teen volunteer. Also in attendance were two volunteers: one who just turned 90 years old and another who is 100 years old. The students listened to great stories and socialized with students from the other high schools.

Mrs. Berberian's 4th graders hosted their first annual Wax Museum Showcase. Students dressed as popular and historical figures and posed as if they were wax statues. When a "button" was pressed, the students brought their characters to life, speaking for a few minutes about their lives, achievements, and provided a fun facts. The event was well-attended by parents, students, and staff, who were all impressed by the presentations. Special thanks to Mrs. Berberian for her hard work and effort in organizing this amazing event!

Ms. Klein's class went on a field trip to LifeTown in Livingston, NJ. There were many different activities for them to do, including going to the bank, riding a bike on the street, making a t-shirt, going to the pet store, and visiting the doctor and dentist! They were also able to work on communicating with their communication devices to make transactions and have conversations. There was also an amazing sensory room and playground that was awesome. They had an amazing time and did a fantastic job.
