Washington School 6th graders from Mrs. Walsh’s class had a great time today at Turtle Back Zoo. Thank you to the Elks for hosting this annual Friendship Day at the zoo and including our students!

Washington School held their first ever Hispanic Heritage Parade in honor of #hispanicheritagemonth this past Friday. It was amazing to see students and staff proudly wearing clothing that represent their countries. We were also treated with a performance from the Peruvian Civic Association of NJ. Leonardo De La Torre and Ashley Castillo did a wonderful job showcasing the traditional Peruvian marinera dance at the culmination of our parade.











Mrs. Martinez’s 2nd grade class from Washington worked on a STEM project that challenged them to plan and build the tallest tower made of spaghetti and marshmallows in groups. They enjoyed a special treat when they were all done!











Mrs. Donovan’s class from Washington worked on planning and building towers in groups. They used marshmallows and spaghetti to build their towers. After their hard work they were able to eat some marshmallows!







A huge THANK YOU to @UnitedWayWorldwide and United Way of Greater Newark for the generous donation of Literacy Kits and backpacks! 🎒📚 Our students absolutely loved them, and the personal notes and beautifully decorated boxes made the gift even more special. 💌 The school supplies are already being put to great use, and the thoughtful touches have brought smiles to everyone. Your support means the world to us! 🌍

Our students were recently awarded gift cards and certificates for their outstanding performance in the i-Ready Summer Math contest. Their hard work and dedication throughout the summer really paid off!

🇺🇸 Washington School commemorated September 11th with a patriotic dress down day. Teachers also taught lessons on the importance of this day in our nations history. 🇺🇸










📣Reminder! Kearny Public Schools will hold its regular Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 16th at the board office: 172 Midland Avenue. The meeting will be open to the public at 7pm.


On Friday, September 6th, Kearny High School began its pep rally with the 23rd annual 9/11 Flag Raising and Remembrance Ceremony. Led by Marty Nystrom and featuring families of Kearny residents who lost their lives in the attacks, the ceremony offered a moment to reflect and honor those from Kearny affected by the tragedy. We will never forget. 🕊️








The third annual Faculty Field Day, held on September 3, 2024, centered around teacher wellness. The event began with a keynote address by Dr. Katie Peters, who emphasized the value of kindness and empathy. Following the keynote, teachers participated in various wellness activities, including yoga, yard games, walking, painting, cooking, and more. The day concluded with a lively pop-up performance by Appetite for Instruction, an all-faculty band featuring Marlaina Melker on vocals, James Sickinger on guitar, John Kubowicz on keyboard, Jeremy Gorin on saxophone, and Salvatore Coffaro on drums. Inspired, teachers and staff are ready to welcome their students to an exciting year!
