During their music classes in October, students in Ms. Lavelle-Mazol’s and Ms. Sansone’s homerooms worked with guest artists from Jersey City’s Segunda Quimbamba Folkloric Center. They learned about an Afro-Puerto Rican dance tradition called “Bomba.” This week they presented their routine for our 1st and 2nd graders. Thanks to our Visual and Performing Arts Supervisor Mrs. Kathleen Astrella for working to arrange this opportunity for our students!

Yesterday, Washington students came together to celebrate kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Wearing orange was just the beginning — we shared kind words, supported one another, and showed what it means to stand united. At our school, every student matters, and every voice deserves to be heard. Let’s continue to choose kindness every day!

Mrs Bellenger’s class from Washington was so lucky to have our Superintendent of Schools, Mrs Flora Encarnacao read to us today! She read the story, “Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” by Julia Rawlinson (illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke) It’s a heartwarming picture book about change, seasons, and the beauty of nature through the eyes of a young fox named Fletcher. It’s a sweet story that helps children understand and accept change, especially seasonal change, in a reassuring and magical way. Our class truly loved it. Thank you for visiting with us today!
