The following is a special shout out from Washington ESL/Bilingual Teachers: Ms. Varela, Mrs. Parreiras, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Onnembo and Mrs. Spang.
Recently, some of our students took a very important test called the MODEL Assessment where the students were tested on their English abilities.
The following students did an amazing job and have passed the test!

In every corner of our district, there are people who show up with heart, dedication, and quiet strength — often without the spotlight they deserve. This week, we are taking a moment to celebrate them.
We are starting with our incredible security team. They greet the earliest arrivals, watch over our buildings long after the last dismissal, and bring comfort simply by being there. Their steady presence keeps our schools safe and allows our community to thrive.

During their music classes in October, students in Ms. Lavelle-Mazol’s and Ms. Sansone’s homerooms worked with guest artists from Jersey City’s Segunda Quimbamba Folkloric Center.
They learned about an Afro-Puerto Rican dance tradition called “Bomba.” This week they presented their routine for our 1st and 2nd graders.
Thanks to our Visual and Performing Arts Supervisor Mrs. Kathleen Astrella for working to arrange this opportunity for our students!

Washington Pre-K students began their Seed Study by observing and documenting the flowers, plants and trees they saw around our school.
They even had time to stop and smell the roses!
What will you notice when you go outdoors and observe our beautiful world? Have fun exploring!

A huge thank you to the Kearny Fire Department for visiting Washington School! They provided an amazing assembly filled with fun, a little magic, and some very important fire safety lessons! Our students had a wonderful time learning how to stay safe!

Yesterday, Washington students came together to celebrate kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Wearing orange was just the beginning — we shared kind words, supported one another, and showed what it means to stand united.
At our school, every student matters, and every voice deserves to be heard. Let’s continue to choose kindness every day!

Mrs. DaSilva Brown’s Pre-K have finished the “First Six Weeks” Study and have learned so much about Washington School. They have met important people that work around the building, different parts of our building, how to make and keep friends and how to take care of our school, our selves and our classroom with jobs. They finished with our annual Gingerbread Man Hunt too. 🏫🦒🎒

🎃 This past Friday, Washington School PTA hosted a fun-filled Trunk or Treat! From creative car decorations to plenty of sweet treats, it was a night full of Halloween spirit and community fun. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it so special! 👻🍬
