On September 30th, Kearny High School held their annual Bonfire and Parade. Members of the KHS and LMS Cheer Squad, the KHS Band, and members of the KHS and LMS football teams celebrated their seasons by marching from Kearny High School to Bunny Hill where an illuminating fire awaited. The event was made possible through the cooperation of KHS, the KPD, KFD, KPW, Cali Carting, Moran Towing, Mayor Doyle, KHS Principal Mr. Brack, and Superintendent of School, Mrs. Encarnacao.

Congratulations to Ms. Nunes and Ms. Rebelo on their retirements. For more than a quarter century, Ms. Nunes and Ms. Rebelo have advocated for multilingual students by teaching science and humanities courses, respectively. They adored their students and made their classes fun and challenging--Ms. Nunes with her owl pellet lab and Ms. Rebelo with her clock stoppers. KHS said goodbye to these amazing educators on Tuesday, September 30, with breakfast celebrations. The Science department honored Ms. Nunes's contributions to teaching (over her 26 years at KHS!) and the English Department celebrated Ms. Rebelo's 23+ years of teaching. Throughout the day, students, faculty, staff, and administrators from both KHS and the Central office stopped by to say their goodbyes. Ms. Nunes and Ms. Rebelo made a lasting impact on countless lives as teachers and will truly be missed.
On Wednesday September 24th, KHS Broadcasting students were visited by Mrs. Lyndsay Smart Vitale from Franklin School right in our district! The presentation captured balancing her educator role with her journey in the media world from hosting several TV programs to voice acting to now acting and producing short films.
The Incredible Duck Race:
The Kearny High School K-Birds had the honor of performing patriotic tunes at the annual Incredible Duck Race, hosted by the Kearny-Belleville Elks. This event supported homeless veterans, making it a meaningful cause and a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the community and strengthen bonds.

To celebrate this, students in Mrs. Komurek-DeMatos' classes were asked to reflect on a fun and insightful question:
"What type of math person are you?"
This activity helps set the tone for a classroom where all math minds are valued — because there's no one right way to be a “math person.”

9/11 Flag Raising & Remembrance Ceremony at Town Hall:
The K-Birds proudly represented Kearny High School at the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Town Hall, sharing their voices in honor of such a meaningful occasion. Opportunities like these allow our students to stay humbled, connected, and engaged with both history and community. We are grateful for the invitation and look forward to supporting future community events!
