KHS students from the Engineering, Architecture and Medical classes attended the 11th annual Girls in Technology event held at Hudson Community College. Featuring an interactive panel discussion and Q&A session with women in STEM related careers, the panel highlighted women in civil and mechanical engineering as well as cyber security. The students then participated in hands-on activities, including a skin and hair toxicology demonstration from L'Oreal, a coding session led by cyber security experts, an encryption activity, a lead paint activity and a wood flooring demonstration. They even had some of their jewelry analyzed for its materials and had their hair diagnosed. KHS Introduction to Engineering Design students created model mini golf course holes as part of the engineering design process. The students had to select an event, location or person relevant to the state of New Jersey as the theme of their golf hole. Students were able to use any materials, including 3D printed objects, to achieve this and could include moving parts. Students were also given dimension parameters including the miniature size of the hole, golf ball and club. As part of the challenge, students also had to research their event, location or person and write a one page description on the topic. They had to create a QR code to link to their documentation the player could scan to learn more about New Jersey. Students were encouraged to use recycled or natural materials.

Eighth-grade Lincoln Middle School Student Council members enjoyed a day with KHS Student Government members, getting a sneak peek into what they might expect next year. The students toured the high school, met with students and faculty, and participated in a Q&A session. It was a great day for the students all around, as they were able to gain insight into some of the ways the SGA is integral to our high school community.

In honor of Elementary School Wellness Week, the Kearny School District encourages our community to "Take a Moment for Mindfulness" and participate in a simple stretching exercise. 🧘🏼 Reduce muscle tension, improve posture and circulation, and increase your energy levels! Here's a brief guide for a simple chair stretching exercise: 🌿Sit comfortably on a sturdy chair with your feet flat on the ground, hip-width apart. 🌿Begin with a gentle neck stretch: Drop your right ear towards your right shoulder, feeling the stretch along the left side of your neck. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then switch sides. 🌿Next, stretch your shoulders: Clasp your hands behind your back and gently lift them away from your body, opening up your chest. Hold for 15-30 seconds. 🌿Move on to stretch your upper back: Sit up tall, interlace your fingers in front of you, and round your back, bringing your chin towards your chest. Hold for 15-30 seconds. 🌿Stretch your arms: Extend your right arm straight out in front of you, parallel to the ground. Use your left hand to gently pull your fingers back towards you, feeling the stretch in your forearm and wrist. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then switch sides. 🌿Finally, stretch your legs: Extend one leg straight out in front of you, heel on the ground and toes pointing up. Lean forward slightly, feeling the stretch along the back of your leg. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then switch legs. 🌿🌿Remember to breathe deeply and slowly throughout each stretch. 🌿Repeat each stretch 2-3 times as needed for a refreshing break!
