Garfield School: As part of Hello Week, our 6th graders “chalked the walk” with colorful greetings in many different languages. From “Hola” to “Bonjour” to “Ciao,” students helped spread a message of kindness, welcome, and inclusivity to everyone entering our school!

Garfield School: The first week of school is wrapping up, and our 6th-grade math students had a blast participating in fun team-building activities that also strengthened their math skills. A great start to learning and working together!
Garfield School: Our 6th graders participated in meaningful 9/11 activities this week, including creating collaborative posters, drawing reflections, and watching videos to learn more about the day’s impact. Students also discovered how Kearny was involved and explored the importance of local memorials that honor and remember those who were lost.

Garfield School: What a great way to kick off the year! 6th-grade students filled the halls with positive notes on lockers, reminding each other to be kind, supportive, and encouraging every day.
Garfield School: The first week of school was all about teamwork in 6th grade! Students participated in activities that encouraged cooperation, focus, and lots of laughter.
Garfield School: Mrs. Coleman and Mr. Tchalabi started off the year in P.E. with some Cooperative Games! Students in Grades 1-6 worked together in games like the Human Knot, Chicken Baseball, Island Hopping, Mission Impossible, Chinese Dragon and Builders and Breakers. Welcome back!

Garfield School bid farewell to our dear retiree, Mrs. Elena Kruger. After 35 years of service to the Kearny School District as a 2nd grade teacher, special education teacher, and LDTC, Mrs. Kruger will be greatly missed by our students, families, administration, faculty and staff. She has made a difference in countless lives and we wish her all the best in her retirement!
Garfield School: Today, we cheered on our amazing 6th graders during the traditional Clap Out as they officially said goodbye to Garfield School and stepped into their next chapter at Lincoln Middle School! With proud smiles and a few happy tears, they walked the halls one last time while students and staff lined up to send them off with love and applause.
