Garfield School: Ms. Seeley and Mrs. Gallagher-Figueroa’s 2nd graders are building strong math foundations! They engaged in a strategic lesson focused on adding and subtracting within 100. Using a combination of music, technology, and partner work, students strategically applied key concepts like place value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction throughout group activities and individualized iReady time.

Happy Veterans Day! Garfield PEERS got creative and teamed up with Mr. McShane’s art classes to design artwork for our local veterans. Students created thoughtful pieces to hang up in the school and to hand in as gifts. The PEERS also invited 5th and 6th graders to write heartfelt letters of appreciation to thank our veterans for their service.

Garfield School's 6th grade scientists were diving deep into their model pond ecosystems! They learned to distinguish between abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) factors to understand how a habitat truly functions.
The students collected water samples, observed the tiny microscopic life under a microscope as they prepare their ponds for their frogs to live in.

In Garfield School, rhythm is a team sport! 🥁 Mr. Burzynski's 5th grade music class performed a dynamic three-part Orff ensemble (tubanos, xylophones, and movement). Students used their newly mastered 16th note rhythms to build a complex, layered groove!

At Garfield School, Mrs. Berberian’s 4th Grade students celebrated the end of Amplify CKLA Unit 1 by playing Candy Land!

During this unit, we read Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret. We learned that Candy Land was invented by Eleanor Abbott, a schoolteacher who had polio. While she was recovering, she wanted to make something fun for children who were sick and had to stay in the hospital—many of them in iron lungs. Her goal was to bring them comfort and joy through play.

Before our game, we watched a short video about how Candy Land was created and learned how it connects to our book. It was a sweet way to celebrate all our hard work!
