Mrs. Nolan and Iris Flores organized the distribution of the book What Is a Lionfish? for Roosevelt 6th-graders. Sponsored by Mrs. Flores, author Roger J. Muller and his assistant, the event aimed to raise awareness about restoring natural balance in coral reef ecosystems. Each student received their own copy of the book, which also includes engaging activities to deepen their learning.

We are closing out our Gratitude Week series by celebrating the substitute teachers who step in with flexibility, care, and confidence whenever our classrooms need them. Depicted here are just a few of the many subs who support our students and keep learning moving forward each day.
Thank you for your adaptability, your calm presence, and the important role you play in our schools. We are truly grateful for you. 💛🍎

As part of our Gratitude Week celebration, today we are celebrating the district bus drivers who start and end each school day with a smile. No matter the weather or the route, they greet our students with patience, kindness, and steady care.

Roosevelt School and Principal Moyano would like to thank Maribel’s Café and owners Maribel and Frank Gonzalez for their generous donation of jackets, hats, and socks. Maribel nominated the school through Amazon’s "Together We Give" program, and we are grateful her business was selected to give back. Thanks to their kindness, our students will stay a little warmer this winter.

In every corner of our district, there are people who show up with heart, dedication, and quiet strength — often without the spotlight they deserve. This week, we are taking a moment to celebrate them.
We are starting with our incredible security team. They greet the earliest arrivals, watch over our buildings long after the last dismissal, and bring comfort simply by being there. Their steady presence keeps our schools safe and allows our community to thrive.

Saluting the heroes who served our nation. #VeteransDay

Over the course of October, Mrs. Pabst, Mrs. Nolan, and Roosevelt School students have been actively learning about the environment and the importance of protecting our planet. Our 6th graders culminated their lessons on water systems and pollution by partnering with the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) to collect trash along the Passaic River bank—gathering an impressive 12 bags of garbage!
The 6th-grade students also had the opportunity to observe microorganisms in partially treated wastewater from a wastewater treatment plant under a microscope to understand better how water is cleaned and returned safely to the environment. In addition, students in grades 4–6 attended an assembly led by Mr. Brooks from PVSC on the Passaic River Restoration Program.
To further our environmental efforts, members of the KHS S.A.V.E. Club visited students in grades 4–6 to launch a plastic wrapper recycling initiative. The goal is to collect enough wrappers to earn a bench for our school made entirely from recycled plastic—an exciting step forward in our journey toward EcoSchools certification!
