📷 Imagine a friend sends you a funny photo. Would you post it, pause and ask permission, or keep it private?
Ask your child to explain their choice. Talk about privacy, permission, and how sharing something online might affect someone else.
Sometimes responsible digital citizenship begins with a moment of reflection.

Our Digital Citizenship Week series continues with a look at what influences the content we see online. 📸
Social media feeds and recommendations are shaped by what we click, watch, search, and follow. But what might we be missing?
Ask your child: Why do you think this content appeared in your feed? What other perspectives might be missing?
A personalized feed is not always the complete picture.

Ask your child: If someone only knew you through your online activity, what might they assume about you?

Washington School celebrated Respect Week in early October. One of our favorite days to celebrate is Me Shirt Day! This day gives us an opportunity to connect with one another and showcases what makes us unique!

Washington School culminated #hispanicheritagemonth with our 3rd annual Hispanic Heritage Month parade this past Friday. A few of our 5th graders participated in a presentation in English and in Spanish about why Hispanic Heritage month is important!

Washington School students had the opportunity to Walk with a Cop today! Our students really enjoyed connecting with our local officers. Thank you KPD for hosting this event!

Being a good digital citizen means learning to communicate responsibly, protect our privacy, think critically, and understand how our digital choices affect others.
Throughout the week, the Kearny School District will share five simple activities and conversation starters for classrooms and families.
We're kicking off with Leave a Positive Digital Footprint!
Ask your child: What is one way you can use technology to make someone's day better?
Follow along all week and continue the conversation at home.

Washington School had their 3rd annual Hispanic Heritage Parade today and a handful of their 5th graders spoke about the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month before the parade in English and in Spanish! Friday was National Custodian Day! Ms O’Rourke, Mrs Ameri, Mrs Mirigliani, Ms Veloso and Mrs Crawford’s classes from Washington showered our custodians with applause and cards to show their appreciation!

Ms. Bird’s Summer Reading Party at Washington was a huge success! We had over thirty students complete their reading log. They were treated today to some goodies and activities! 📚❤️

Washington School first graders had so much fun creating these colorful All About Me collages! 🎨💕 From painting and creating patterns to answering some fun questions, it was such a sweet way to learn a little more about each other. We loved seeing their personalities come through in every one! 🥰
