At Kearny High School, our kids reveled in the opportunity to learn about different career paths, from making thumbprint molds and learning about dental health, to baking cookies and learning about kitchen safety. Thank you Mrs. Marsh and Mrs. Barone for exciting crafts, activities, and of course - cookies!

KHS students in our accounting and business classes attended a two day workshop at Deloitte, one of the big four accounting firms, in Morristown. Students participated in hands-on workshops where they learned about Deloitte, opportunities that exist in the field of accounting, personal finance topics and college and career readiness. Students also toured their office space and had a question and answer session with a panel of 5 Deloitte employees. Two of the Deloitte employees were 1998 graduates of Kearny High School: Erin Abreau, partner, and Michelle Silva, audit partner, who both took our college prep accounting class while they were in KHS. Students enjoyed their time learning about opportunities that exist within accounting and hearing from these professionals. @NJDOE #PowerofEducators #GoodNewsinNJSchools

Mrs. Macedo and Ms. Medina’s students celebrated Shakespeare’s birthday April 23rd.  The students wrote and decorated birthday cards using Shakespeare’s language. They generated their own Shakespearean insults and deciphered whether quotes were attributed to Shakespeare or to a celebrity singer.

On Friday April 19, KHS students visited the Pequest Trout Hatchery in Oxford, NJ. Students toured the facility, learned about the rainbow trout that are raised on site and then stocked in public waters across the state. In addition to a tour of the facility, raceways (concrete holding tanks) and nursery, students learned how to cast and fish on site at the hatchery’s educational pond. Students learned about fishing, forestry and natural resources and it was an educational and recreational fun day! @NJDOE #ClimateChangeEducation #ClimateEd #ActionforEarthNJ

Students in Mrs. Rebelo's ESL High Beginners Course crafted an original play about a significant moment in their lives.  The students, all of whom are seniors, chose to reenact the heartbreaking County Final soccer match against St. Peter's. Bravo on superb acting skills and an intense reenactment of the game!

KHS: Congratulations to Mr. Conde and the KHS Concert Band for winning Top Honors today at the Hudson County Teen Art Festival at NJCU. Next is the States! The band's performance today was stellar and truly magical. The student’s radiated confidence and passion, that was felt by all! Mr. Conde is an outstanding conductor and with him on the podium, the performance was a conversation with the musicians and audience. He showed true passion for each score and his students followed his lead. Under the tutelage of Mr. Conde, the students' hard work, perseverance and countless hours of dedication made the Top Honor Award that much more rewarding! Special thanks to Mr. Pamaar for working with percussionists and assisting them to reach such a high level of play. KHS to my knowledge has never received a Top Honor Award for Concert Band at Teen Arts, nor attended the festival until last year under Mr. Conde's direction. What an amazing accomplishment!!!!! Thank you everyone for your support!! A special thank you to the our parents an students!!

KHS: Our very own Anita Soja is a published poet. Her poem, "First Ink" will be published in The NJ Bards Poetry Review 2024. (Tentative publication in June.) The poem is below. To honor her father a cardinal will appear rib side, petite, just the outline. I've no inclination to fight this youthful, earnest fancy. She knows emotional pain more than physical, pumped up like a boxer ready to leave his corner. She's choosing thin skin for her commemoration. A hidden place on her body to carry an abundance of memories, overflowing from her heart.

🏆The KHS Musical theater group, featuring the K-Birds and the cast of The Addams Family Musical '24, took to the stage for the second day of the Hudson County Teen Arts Festival, winning a Judge's Award for Small Group Musical Theatre "Mama Will Provide" from "Once on This Island" and a Judge's Award for Large Group Musical Theatre "When You're an Addams" from "The Addams Family." Mr. Conde's instrumental students Miguel Pinero won a Judge's Award for guitar solo and Noemi Suarez won a Judge's Award for Violin Solo. The group also earned a perfect score for small group musical theatre with "The Ballad of Jane Doe" from "Ride the Cyclone." 🏆Congratulations to our amazing performers on conquering the stage, and special thanks to Ms. Gonzalez, Mr. Conde, Mr. Parmaar, and Mr. Seaver for their dedication to our music program and a great season.
