KHS Broadcasting Department's coverage of our Pep Rally. The student participants did an excellent job, and we were very proud of them for handling their first live shoot on their own. The students included: David Lopes, Victoria Kulikowski, Aurora Latona, Jasmine Viera, Marcio Medina, Isabella Villalobos, and Jody Salazar. "Shoutout to the outstanding KHS Broadcasting students for capturing the sights and sounds of another great Pep Rally! The students conducted interviews with participants and members of the crowd prior to the start and then conducted a live multi-cam shoot that were both 100% student directed. KHS: On Friday, December 15, 2023, School Spirit was exuberated throughout the halls of KHS as the band and cheerleaders performed for the faculty, staff and students. Athletics held the Winter Sports Pep Rally. It was a huge success! All the teams did a great job and the students cheered on their class mates. KHS: On December 13,2023 the Hudson County School Board held their first county meeting at Kearny High School. The meeting was held in room 127 and the KHS atrium. The meeting began at 5:30pm in room 127 and then moved to the atrium at 6:00pm. • The Visual Art Department displayed the artwork of the KHS students. Mr. Neto organized and set up the display area as guests arrived. • The Culinary Art Department served a delicious meal. The meal consisted of a carving station, roasted pear salad, dinner buffet and delectable desserts. The presentation was professional and the students did an awesome job! The KHS Success students met up with their Lincoln Middle School LLD friends for a fun and festive day of holiday crafts, snacks and carols!

KHS: The KHS Student Government Association recently held a winter food drive. We collected food for needy families in Kearny. The food will be delivered to the Kearny Community Food Bank. Thank you to all those who donated. Thank you Mr. Correnti!

KHS: The Academy of Dance students performed with the Segunda Quimbamba Ensemble. Nanette and Juan have been working with the Academy of Dance students and Gabrielle Vella over the last few weeks to teach and choreograph for this performance. This grant was awarded to Kearny High School through an application process that was submitted by Kathleen Astrella. The grant was awarded through Hudson County Arts. KHS: In Ms. Soja class, after discussing the DJP (Daily Journal Prompt) about whether actual knowledge learned in class is more, less, or as important as grades, students began their group projects for Chaucer’s Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. Working in teams of two-three students, they will create & illustrate three original pilgrims. These pilgrims will be described in poems of iambic pentameter, with heroic (rhyming) couplets.

KHS: In Mr. O'Neil's class, his freshman students continued to hone their research skills by working in groups to find additional information about the people of the Scientific Revolution. Students created collaborative notes about scientists such as Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, Sir Isaac Newton, and more; connecting what they had discovered with our modern world. These notes, and the research skills they have practiced, will serve them well as we begin working on our presentation & public speaking skills.
