On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, the Kearny Chapter of the National Honor Society held their annual swearing-in ceremony. KHS students were recognized for their academic achievements as well their service to the community. The guest speaker was former KHS student, Gabriel Dos Santos who will be graduating from Yale University this Spring with a BA in Economics, BS in Computer Science, and MS in Computer Science.

Last week our Junior Teen PEP Class went to Lincoln Middle School Wed - Friday 12/13 - 12/15/23 and conducted a workshop on Healthy Relationships to the 7th graders. Below is the description of the workshop and pictures of their presentation.
Objectives:
• Describe how you would want to be treated in any relationship (friendship & romantic).
• Is it important to maintain one's values & standards in relationships
• Identify five characteristics of healthy relationships.
• Demonstrate the use of practical communication skills through the use of "I Messages".
The goal of this workshop:
Is to helps students identify the qualities they want in a relationship and gives them the skills and confidence they need to ensure that all of their relationships are healthy.

On Friday, December 15, our Success Class hosted the LMS 7th and 8th grade future success students for a morning of caroling, crafting and Holiday Cheer. A fund time was had by everyone.

KHS: Shoutout to the outstanding KHS Broadcasting students for capturing the sights and sounds of another great Pep Rally! The students conducted interviews with participants and members of the crowd prior to the start and then conducted a live multi-cam shoot that were both 100% student directed. The students included: David Lopes, Victoria Kulikowski, Aurora Latona, Jasmine Viera, Marcio Medina, Isabella Villalobos, and Jody Salazar.

KHS Broadcasting Department's coverage of our Pep Rally. The student participants did an excellent job, and we were very proud of them for handling their first live shoot on their own. The students included: David Lopes, Victoria Kulikowski, Aurora Latona, Jasmine Viera, Marcio Medina, Isabella Villalobos, and Jody Salazar.

KHS: On Friday, December 15, 2023, School Spirit was exuberated throughout the halls of KHS as the band and cheerleaders performed for the faculty, staff and students. Athletics held the Winter Sports Pep Rally. It was a huge success! All the teams did a great job and the students cheered on their class mates. Thank you to Mr. Almeida, the coaching staff and the student athletes who participated.

KHS: On December 13,2023 the Hudson County School Board held their first county meeting at Kearny High School. The meeting was held in room 127 and the KHS atrium. The meeting began at 5:30pm in room 127 and then moved to the atrium at 6:00pm. • The Visual Art Department displayed the artwork of the KHS students. Mr. Neto organized and set up the display area as guests arrived. • The Culinary Art Department served a delicious meal. The meal consisted of a carving station, roasted pear salad, dinner buffet and delectable desserts. The presentation was professional and the students did an awesome job! Special thanks to the dedicated chefs of KHS, Mr. & Mrs. Barone & Mr. Carratura • The KHS Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Conde, played holiday songs. The music was amazing and there were 30 students who participated. • The KHS K-Birds, under the direction of Ms. Gonzalez and accompanied by Ms. Crispo who sang a Swahili song, then led the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the National Anthem. It was a lovely evening that brought the community of students, Hudson County Board members and Kearny District Administration together to enjoy a joyous evening!

The KHS Student Government Association recently held a winter food drive. We collected food for needy families in Kearny. The food will be delivered to the Kearny Community Food Bank. Thank you to all those who donated.

KHS: The Academy of Dance students performed with the Segunda Quimbamba Ensemble. Nanette and Juan have been working with the Academy of Dance students and Gabrielle Vella over the last few weeks to teach and choreograph for this performance. This grant was awarded to Kearny High School through an application process that was submitted by Kathleen Astrella. The grant was awarded through Hudson County Arts.
