The 2023 Kearny High School Poetry Out Loud Competition was a huge success. A total of 32 participants did an amazing job reciting their selected poems. The competition was held on January 18, 2024, and ran throughout the day with two rounds of recitations. Judges used the official Poetry Out Loud rubrics to score the students. The judges agreed that this year’s recitations were excellent and the students truly shined on the KHS stage. Our winner, Brianna Lopez, will go on to the NJ Region Six P.O.L., competition that will take place in February at Passaic County Community College. After the competition, some student audience members were offered the opportunity to go up on stage to recite poems of their choice. This engaged the audience and promoted further interest in Kearny High School's continued involvement in the Poetry Out Loud program. The KHS English Department will also take the school winner and some participants to the Dodge Poetry Festival at the NJPAC in the fall. We are proud to have such dedicated students at Kearny High School who put their hearts into programs like Poetry Out Loud. Great Job Everyone!

Mrs. Biondo’s class celebrated the Christmas holiday with a gift exchange for each student. All students brought some homemade treats and picked a classmate to say something kind about. The students did not know who their “secret Santa” was up until gift-giving time.
