We are happy to share that senior Rebecca Fontes has won a bronze level prize in the AIA Newark & Suburban Architects Student Art Contest for her submission in their annual holiday contest. Students had to create a design which featured a building or group of buildings defined by architecture. The work also had to have a feeling or setting of a winter holiday. Her design is featured on their website

Congratulations to Isabella Held Gonzalez
As a member of the Executive Board of the Art Administrators of NJ, I am thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Neto's student, Isabella Held Gonzalez, for receiving a prestigious Merit Award for her sculpture at the 2025 Emerging Artist High School Exhibition! This remarkable achievement highlights Isabella's immense talent and dedication to her craft.
Isabella will soon have the exciting opportunity to submit a portfolio for adjudication by the AANJ Executive Board for the esteemed Governor's Award. This is a significant step in her artistic journey, and we are eager to see her work recognized at this level.
This year, we celebrate the 37th anniversary of our show, which proudly features the creative works of thirty-three students from twenty-four high schools across New Jersey. The exhibition was adjudicated by a panel of four distinguished Fine Art Professors from Kean University, ensuring a high standard of evaluation.
The show and award presentation will take place this Sunday, from 1:00-3:00 PM, at the James Howe Gallery in the Vaughn Eames Building at Kean University, located at 1000 Morris Avenue, Union. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the incredible talents of our young artists.
As one of the nine award winners in the AANJ 37th Annual High School Art Show, Emerging Artists, Isabella is not only recognized for her artistic achievements but is also eligible for the 2025 AANJ High School Achievement Award. This award acknowledges her outstanding talents with a monetary prize and the honor of being our nominee for the New Jersey Governor’s Award in Art Education, managed by Arts Ed New Jersey. Further information will be provided at the Award Ceremony on Sunday, February 2.
A special thank you to Mr. Neto for his unwavering support and mentorship of Isabella. Your dedication has played a vital role in nurturing her artistic journey and helping her achieve this remarkable milestone.
Congratulations once again to Isabella Held Gonzalez on this well-deserved recognition of her artistic talents! We look forward to witnessing her continued success and contributions to the arts

Tenafly Nature Preserve Presentation
Students attended a presentation where they will learn about the major factors that threaten animals with endangerment and extinction worldwide. They discovered how people both directly and indirectly affect the Earth's biodiversity and meet 4-5 living examples of species whose populations are being affected by human actions today. Gain an awareness of New Jersey's 60+ endangered species, and develop solutions to help prevent threats to our local wildlife. Students explored what happens to a species when most of the population is gone and how easily the remaining animals can perish.
