Mrs. Encarnacao is a first generation American whose parents immigrated from Portugal.  She grew up in Newark, NJ and moved to Kearny when she was 15, where her parents still reside. She has a B.A. in Elementary Education/Social Studies from Caldwell University, an M.A. in Instruction & Curriculum with a specialization in Bilingual Education from Kean University and an M.A. in Educational Administration from Montclair State University.  Mrs. Encarnacao has served the Kearny School District since 2001 as an elementary teacher, instructional coach, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, and now Superintendent.  She has chaired the Hudson County Professional Development
Consortium and the Hudson County Curriculum Consortium. She is also an Executive Member of the Montclair State University Network for Educational Renewal (MSUNER).  In 2022, Mrs. Encarnacao was awarded the Winslow Coyne Reitnouer Excellence in Education Award for her educational achievements in the area of literacy.  Mrs. Encarnacao is proud to be part of the Kearny School District, where staff work tirelessly to provide students with the very best education and opportunities for future success and well-being.  Mrs. Encarnacao is married with two children and is an avid reader.
