"Romeo, Romeo, Where forth art thou, Romeo? "

Washington School 7th grade honors English class performed Romeo and Juliet on Thursday, February 10th. They chose this skit after completing an assigned summer reading activity involving Shakespeare. With the help of their teacher, Miss Walsh, they chose to donate all the proceeds to the Tsunami Relief Fund. They drew a large crowd and raised almost $350 dollars charging just one dollar admission.
Students not only memorized their lines, and spent much of their own time rehearsing, but came up with great creative costumes. Monica Montesino played Juliet. She was an amazing star-crossed lover. Romeo was played by Sagy Dos. His enthusiastic rendition of the character showed his dedication to part. Special mention of Caroline Dos Santos as the nurse. The talent of this young actress deserves mention. Other cast and crew included: Aixa Silva as the narrator, Elizabeth Garcia as the prompter,Patrick Struszczyk as Lord Montague, Clariza Abad as Lord Capulet, Carlos Rabines as Mercutio, Jackie Alfaro as Benvolio, Vitor Silva as Tybalt, Louis Dos Reis as Prince Escalus, Samuel McIntosh as Sampson and Paris, Stephanie Antunes as Gregory Balthasar and Lady Capulet, Alex Valdez as Apothecary, Anna Hseih as Friar John and Dante Sandia as Friar Laurence.
Mrs. Castello, Dr. Boyd and other Washington School faculty members showed their support in many ways. In addition to many attending the play, Miss Fernandes, Mr. Smart, Mrs. Monaghan and Mr. Giardina helped create a mangificant castle set and props, Miss Lavelle and Mr. MacConchie created the playbill and flyers, Mr. Kubowicz, Miss Mitchell and Miss Walsh acted as the directors, Student Council representatives collected money for admission and ACE Program provided a DVD of the performance. "For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo." This performance of this sad story has been a source of great pride to Washington School and hopefully brings some relief to Tsunami vicitims. It helped student to form an appreciation for this great classic and ingenius playwright. Congratulations to all that were involved.
