KFD Firefighter Art Fucetola along with Mike McDade from the Creative Safety Products company are visiting the elementary schools in the district during the month of October, Fire Prevention Month.

The firefighters are speaking to the students about fire safety in the home. Their presentation, filled with fun and magic, delivers an important message to the children about fire safety and what to do if there is a fire in the home.

Fireman Fucetola spoke about three things the students should do for the Kearny Fire Department to assist KFD with fire safety and rescue. First, never play with fire or matches. Next have working smoke alarms and third, have a meeting place outside the home for the entire family if a fire occurs. Both firefighters stressed the most important thing to do in a fire is to get out of the house and don't go back in for any reason.

During the assembly program, for the students in grades 1-4, the firefighters talked about other functions of a fire department in addition to fighting fires.

The program lasted about an hour and the students had the opportunity to ask questions of and answer questions from the firefighters. Throughout the assembly there were constant cheers and applause at the magic tricks used to educate the students about fire safety and prevention.
