Dear Parents/Guardians:
As you are aware, last year we instituted a new I.D. program at Kearny High
School in which students are required to wear their I.D.'s during the
school day. As students enter the building, their I.D. must be visible so that
our hall aides can recognize whether the person entering the building is a
student at KHS. We do not believe this is the answer to all potential security
problems, but we feel it helps to limit the possibility of outsiders entering
the building and allows our hall aides to immediately notify the administration
and security personnel that an unauthorized person might be in the building. It
gives us the opportunity to head off a potential problem before it happens. Unless the students fully cooperate with this program, it cannot work. If the students do not cooperate with the I.D. program the
consequences will be more severe and could result in suspension rather than
detention.
I am requesting that you, as parents, support our security initiative by
insisting your child follow the rules and wear the I.D. as required.
If you have any questions concerning our I.D. program or the consequences that
might be associated with it, please feel free to call me or attend our PTA
meetings when I will be happy to discuss this issue with you.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Very truly yours,
Al Somma
Principal
