On May 2, 2007, the Team Up Against Drugs and Alcohol Committee in conjunction with the Kearny Police Department, Kearny Fire Department, and Kearny and North Arlington EMS, held a Mock Car Crash outside of Kearny High School. This event was provided for the Junior and Senior classes as a thought-provoking message before the Prom season. Moran Towing provided two vehicles to be used in the car accident scene. Jim Sackerman, a former Kearny High School student who is currently a lieutenant on the North Arlington Emergency Squad, narrated the story of four friends hanging out before prom and drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. The Kearny Fire department demonstrated how they complete a car extraction. The Team Up Against Drugs and Alcohol Committee passed out key tags which had a toll free number that students can call if they find themselves in a situation that is potentially dangerous to their safety. The committee hopes that this event will not only enable our students be more aware of potential problems but to also make responsible decisions about drug and alcohol abuse
