On Thursday October
19, 2006, Mrs. Nancy Zimmerman, former Medical Assisting
Instructor and mother of Jon Zimmerman, Vice Principal of
Franklin School returned to her old classroom to speak to
the occupational healthcare students about a cause that
means a great deal to her, breast cancer awareness. Mrs.
Zimmerman is a fifteen year survivor of breast cancer and is
an outspoken advocate and supporter for this common cancer
occurring mostly in women. Mrs. Z spoke about risk factors,
early detection, and treatment for women and men who are
diagnosed with this frightening disease. She spoke of her
own personal experience, without any hesitation, and her
long arduous months of treatment. The students were so
absorbed in her story and had many question after Mrs. Z
spoke and she answered all of them with her good nature and
her candid humor. It was a great day and as out students
strive to work hard to raise funds for this dreaded disease
they now have inspiration and new hope because of Mrs. Z. |
