YMWCA Sports Legends Visit District Schools

"Make the right choices... Attendance in school is important...Get an education...Strive for excellence...Challenge yourself...Learn how to handle wins and losses...Decide to be a famous person...If you follow the leader, you're never going to be the leader."

 On November 29th and 30th, Sports Legends visited the Kearny Schools. The program was made possible from the Newark YMWCA. Mr. Joseph Aulisi (left), assistant athletic director for KHS and Mr. Frank Digesere (center) Principal of KHS welcomed Sports Legends Carl Eller, (University of Minnesota, Minnesota Vikings, National Football League Hall of Fame);  Rayfield Wright (Fort Valley State College, Offensive Tackle-Dallas Cowboys); and Bobby Bell, Sr. ( University of Minnesota, Outside Linebacker-Kansas City Chiefs, All-American, All Big Ten, Outland Trophy Winner); to Kearny High School. Ms. Edye Thomas from the Newark YMWCA accompanied the athletes to KHS.

"Have dreams...Always keep the dreams present in your mind...Don't ever think you're insignificant...Avoid negativity....Work hard... Practice...If you think it, you can do it."

  Bruce Driver (left, NJ Devils Defenseman and team captain);  and the NJ  Devil's mascot (center) along with Olympian Willye White (Chicago State   University, 5 time U.S. Olympian-Track & Field); -and Seton Hall University Wrestling Coach John Allen (right) visited Garfield School. Mr. Nicholas Testa, Principal of Garfield School, (standing next to NJ), welcomed the Sports Legends.

 

And at Lincoln School: Juan Cordova, NJ Devil, Kimberly Henderson, Randy Velischek(hockey player), Leonard Black(football player), Pat Henderson, Paul Reitemeyer, Katie McGonigal, Paul Houseman(NCAA basketball official) learn about sportsmanship and having a winning attitude

 

"Don't limit yourself...Listen to your peers, your parents, teachers and friends...Set and achieve goals.....Stay in school no matter what the circumstances are...Continuously improve...Get with and stay with great people."

 Rayfield Wright, Bobby Bell and Carl Eller, like all the Sports Legends who visited the Kearny Schools, are sports heroes, sports giants and great people. These Sports Legends and  KHS Football Coach Mr. Richard Howell and KHS Assistant Athletic Director, Mr. Joseph Aulisi  became a success because of their love of sports, their love of learning, and their love for sharing their time, talent and expertise with young people. Congratulations to all our Sports Legends and to the Newark YMWCA for bringing the Sports Legends to our school district.
