Summer Fun at the Town Library
Summer is the perfect time for children to see how much fun reading can be. Young children love to listen to stories, and older readers enjoy choosing their own books to read. The Kearny Public Library wants to help parents and children enjoy books. How, you ask? The Children’s Department presents “DRAGONS, DREAMS AND DARING DEEDS…,” the theme of this year’s reading program. Children of all ages can pick up a reading log to keep track of the books that they read or have read to them. Every child who reads or listens to 20 books; or reads or listens for12 hours, and returns the reading log by August 12 will receive a prize at the awards ceremony.
There’s more! On Thursday, June 23 at 2:30p.m., the “City Winds Trio” will present a program for children 3 years and older. Crispian Fordham on flute, Meredyth Coleman on oboe and Danielle Ohsiek on bassoon make up the trio. The City Winds Trio musicians introduce young children to classical music and the instruments found within an orchestra through their program, Musical Innovations. Each program includes live music, movement, an art project and the trying of real musical instruments.
For a second year in a row, the Kearny Public Library will present “The Lizard Guys,” this year on Thursday, June 30, at 3:30 p.m. at the Library. The Lizard Guys are a popular educational entertainment group. Dressed in safari outfits, they bring live exotic animals to the program. These include bugs, frogs, lizards turtles and snakes. They will teach the children about where our animals come from, what they eat, how they hide and protect themselves, and how they differ from humans. Appropriate for children age 5 and above.
More vacation programs will be scheduled, so check back for future dates!
