SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973

NON-DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF HANDICAP

The Kearny Public School System is totally committed to the belief that each child in its trust is a unique and precious human being, endowed with highly individual capacities, talents and needs.  Further, we believe that it is the prime responsibility of the public schools to focus its combined efforts toward helping each child to achieve his/her full potential as an individual and as a contributing member of society.

We further believe that human learning is infinitely complex and requires interaction among the teacher, the learner and the environment.   Learning is best achieved when the learner is provided with those tools that will enable him/her to master personal capabilities and successfully utilize the total resources at his/her command.

The Kearny Public Schools are committed to integrated education as a means of helping each child achieve to his/her fullest potential as an individual and as a member of a society.

Therefore, it is the Kearny Board of Education’s policy that no child will be discriminated against or not be allowed to participate in any programs or activities that

are offered in the Kearny Public Schools.  It further accepts and adopts Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 which states, “No qualified handicapped person shall, on the basis of handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity which receives or benefits from Federal financial assistance.”
