LONG
TERM SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS
In the event a long term substitute teacher is needed, the
following conditions will apply. Long
term is defined as 21 school days or more in the same classroom:

Every effort will be made to hire a certified teacher or a
teacher with certificate of eligibility with advanced
standing,
in the specific subject matter, as needed.
Pursuant to N.J.A.C.
This category includes short term absences, including family
leave
with a maximum of twelve weeks.

If a teacher takes a family leave which extends into a maternity leave,
or a maternity leave, both without pay, or a leave of absence without pay, and
the Board has approved these leaves, the substitute teacher will receive a one
year contract for the entire time the teacher is off the payroll.
Payroll will be handled by the business office as per custom of all
contracted personnel. Board approval
will be needed to give the substitute teacher a one year contract.

In the event an appropriate certified teacher cannot be hired, a county
substitute will be employed, and if needed, taken out of the classroom on the
21st day for a one-day hiatus.
