PRINCIPAL: ATHLETICS/SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
The Vice Principal in charge of Athletics/School
Activities will serve as an extension of the principal in fulfillment of the
principal’s administrative and instructional responsibilities.
In the absence of the principal, the vice principals will assume full
charge of the high school.
Responsibilities:
-- Overseeing all aspects of the processes and procedures necessary for athletic/
extracurricular activities (scheduling, physical arrangements, hiring of officials,
police security, transportation requirements, etc.).
-- Overseeing all aspects of the processes for class and club procedures.
-- Ensuring successful dissemination and collection of all written materials within the
required time parameters as set by the N.J.S.I.A.A. and the Kearny Board of Education
(eligibility lists, parental permission slips, insurance lists, accident reports, etc.).
-- Scheduling and supervising the medical personnel during required physical
examinations for all athletes.
-- Initiating and managing all budgetary requests from coaches and activity sponsors in
preparation of the annual athletic/activity budgets, including disbursement of all funds
approved by the Kearny Board of Education in support of the high school athletic/
activity programs.
-- Scheduling, coordinating and introducing each of the three “Sports Awards Assemblies”,
including provisions for the distribution of all necessary and appropriate awards.
-- Maintaining and posting a master schedule of athletic contests each season, including
information on locations and starting times, along with directions as requested by
students, parents, staff and the public at large.
-- Assist in organizing and implementing the high school graduation processes.
-- Supervising the head coaches in preparation for the “Meet the Coaches Night”

-- Keeping current the “Coaches’ Handbook,” procedures for all athletic coaches and
orientation of new coaches, along with communicating Board of Education policies
and N.J.S.I.A.A. regulations.
-- Ensuring that current inventories of athletic equipment and supplies are maintained and
secured.
-- Attending and supervising afternoon, evening and weekend athletic events/school
activities (i.e., dances, proms, concerts, musical, etc.)
-- Reporting to the appropriate administrators all unusual incidents or events occurring
at athletic contests/activities.
-- Acting as site manager for all approved athletic tournaments, ensuring that all permits,
insurance and costs have been provided for by the organization.
-- Assuring that each coach’s responsibility includes contacts with institutions of higher
learning in promoting their athletes post high school ambitions.
-- Promoting new sport teams to the Board of Education and including in such
recommendations a cost analysis (budget, coaches salaries, equipment costs, etc.).
-- Assisting in the interviewing of new coaches.
-- Completing evaluations of each coach by season while acting as a consultant to the
principal on reappointments.

Articulating the athletic/activity programs to all segments of the
System, along with providing information on the athletic/activity programs through the
local and area newspapers/cable network.
-- Acting as a consultant and be directly responsible on all matters to the high school
principal as they relate to the athletic/activity programs.
-- Reporting to the Superintendent, or his/her designee, all matters relative to the District
Athletic/Activities Programs.

Communicating to the junior school principals all matters relative to the
“
Redwings” program.
-- Addressing the eighth grade students on the high school athletic program.
-- Assuming any other duties as assigned by the high school principal
