DIRECTOR
OF K-8 CURRICULUM/TESTING
CERTIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Master’s Degree.
2. Minimum of 10 years experience in elementary education (K-8).
3. Strong background as evidenced by course work and/or experience in elementary curriculum and/or curriculum development.
4. Graduate work in any or all of the following:
a. Elementary Education
b. Curriculum
c. Reading
d. Language Arts
e. Math
5. Possess a Principal’s certificate.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Supervise the planning and development of procedures for review and evaluation of materials in use i.e., texts, supplementary materials and equipment.
2. Maintain a current inventory of relevant instructional materials and equipment available in the elementary schools.
3. Assist with the selection and ordering of instructional materials.
4. Supervise and coordinate the implementation, or revisions, of the curriculum.
5. Consult with teachers and administrators regarding instructional materials and the curriculum.
6. Consult with the high school principal and designated high school personnel in order to maintain continuity in the curriculum from the elementary and junior school to the secondary level.
7. Arrange for and/or conduct in-service meetings, including curriculum orientation for new teachers
8. Provide current information with regard to curriculum development i.e., bulletins on new ideas and materials.
9. Meet with sales representatives regarding new materials.
10. Assist with interpretation of achievement test dat
11. Confer regularly with principals regarding all phases of the programs.
12. Serve as resource person for the central office administration.
13. Be available for demonstration lessons.
14. Organize all committee meetings which deal with selection or change of appropriate textbooks in the district.
15. Confer with the district’s State/Federal Fund Coordinator and Director of Special Services regarding any programs which affect basic instruction.
16. Correlate and integrate the various subject areas, where possible.
17. Prepare an annual report for the Superintendent covering the growth and aims of the elementary curriculum.
18. Assists in the maintenance planning and selection of computer equipment and related technology.
19. Be available to meet with parent groups to discuss the various areas of the elementary curriculum.
20. Perform other duties and special assignments consistent with this position as delegated by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.
21. Directs and coordinates the District and State Testing Program in Grades K-8.
22. Directs and coordinates elementary assessment.
23. Oversees and coordinates the Gifted and Talented Program.
24. Supervises summer training for elementary teachers.
25. Coordinates elementary counseling programs.
26. Coordinates elementary library/media programs including Summer Reading Projects.
