Adjourned Meeting

The Adjourned Meeting of the Kearny Board of Education was held in the Board Room, 100 Davis Avenue, on the evening of the above date.

 

President Torres called the meeting to order and announced that in accordance with Chapter 231, Laws of 1975, Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of the meeting was provided to the Observer and the Jersey Journal.  Notice of the meeting was posted on the bulletin board in the lobby of the Board Office and filed with the Assistant Town Clerk by letter dated April 24, 2006.

 

ROLL CALL

 

On roll call, the following members were present: Mr. Campbell, Mr. Castelli, Mr. Doffont, Mr. Martello, Mrs. Mc Keown, Mrs. Santos, Mr. Sgalia, President Torres.

 

Mr. Robert P. Mooney, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ingrid L. Kiss, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Leslie J. Gaulton, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, and Mr. Kenneth J. Lindenfelser, Esq., Board Attorney, were also present.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

                        Mrs. Torres led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Mr. Gaulton reported the unofficial results of the April 18, 2006 School Board Election as provided by the Office of the Kearny Town Clerk:

OLD BUSINESS

 

BOARD MEMBER SPEAKS

 

                         Mrs. Mc Donald explained the terms of a settlement agreement between the Board and the District’s former full-time Aides regarding sick time entitlement.

 

The following resolution was moved by Mrs. Mc Donald, seconded by Mr. Doffont and unanimously carried:               

 

APPROVAL OF SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT

 

                         The Kearny Board of Education hereby approves the Settlement Agreement with the District’s former full-time Aides, which will provide ten (10) sick days for the 2005/2006 school year and thereafter in each succeeding school year.

 

OLD BUSINESS (CONTINUED)

 

                         Mr. Mooney introduced a proclamation naming Tuesday, May 9th as “National Teacher Day”.

 

The following resolution was moved by Mrs. Mc Donald, seconded by Mrs. Mc Keown and unanimously carried:

 

NATIONAL TEACHER DAY – MAY 9, 2006

 

             The Kearny Board of Education hereby approves the proclamation entitled “National Teacher Day” in recognition of the District’s teaching staff.

            

PRESENTATIONS

 

                         Mrs. Mc Keown presented a farewell gift to departing Board member Michael Martello, commending him for his nine years of service to the School District and his contributions to the Board of Education.

 

                         Mary Torres, outgoing President and the senior Board member with nineteen years of service, was presented with a farewell gift by Mrs. Mc Donald, who thanked Mrs. Torres for her many years of dedication and expertise to the Kearny School District and its students.

 

MOTION RE:      ADJOURNMENT

 

                        It was moved by Mr. Martello, seconded by Mrs. Mc Donald and unanimously carried by acclamation to adjourn the meeting.
