Special Meeting
June 1, 2006
7:15 P.M.
A Special Meeting of the Kearny Board of Education was held in the Board Room, 100 Davis Avenue, on the evening of the above date.
President Mc Donald called the meeting to order and announced that in accordance with Chapter 231, Laws of 1975, Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of the meeting was provided to the Observer and the Jersey Journal, and notice of the meeting was posted on the bulletin board in the lobby of the Board Office.
ROLL CALL
On roll call, the following members were present: Mr. Campbell, Mr. Castelli, Mrs. Marks, Mrs. Mc Keown, President Mc Donald.
Mr. Robert P. Mooney, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ingrid L. Kiss, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, and Mr. Kenneth J. Lindenfelser, Esq., Board Attorney were also present.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mrs. Mc Donald led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT
Mrs. Santos and Messrs. Doffont and Sgalia were absent from the meeting.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR/BOARD SECRETARY ABSENT
Mr. Gaulton was absent from the meeting; Mrs. Gail Landi served as Secretary Pro Tem.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING
The purpose of the Special Meeting is to conduct an open forum discussion of school uniforms.
BOARD MEMBER ARRIVES
Mrs. Schalago arrived at 7:50 P.M.
DISCUSSION
Mr. Jon Zimmerman, Vice Principal of Franklin School, and Mr. Mooney addressed the assembly regarding the Board of Education’s proposal to institute a policy requiring school uniforms. Citing several reasons for the plan, including safety, security, and financial issues, the Board was interested in parental feedback prior to further discussion or decisions regarding the matter. Several members of the assembly addressed the Board with their questions and opinions of the policy.
MOTION RE: ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Mrs. Mc Keown, seconded by Mrs. Marks and unanimously carried by acclamation to adjourn the meeting.
MEETING ADJOURNED
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
